Brief about me

IBRAHIM Asiata Omotayo is a Reader in Inorganic/ Analytical Chemistry with more than two decades experience in the Academia. Her research interest is on synthesis of Inorganic Complexes such as Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for Applications in Adsorption, Non-linear Optical properties and Analytical Chemistry. She has synthesized and characterized some novel Metal Organic Frameworks(MOFs) of Manganese(II), Nickel(II) and Copper(II) that have potential application as Non-Linear Optical(NLO) materials, CO2 storage, Electromagnet/Electronics materials which are use ful in Material Science and Technology. In the area of Analytical chemistry, some of the synthesized MOFs are self-indicating reagents which can be used for determination of Citric and Ascorbic acids in fruits and vegetables. Also, she is currently working on the use of Agricultural wastes for production of Adsorbents for the removal of contaminants from the environment. This research focuses on clean environment and treatment of polluted water with prepared Adsorbents to obtain clean water, which is in accordance with SDGs (11 and 6) respectively. She has co-authored and published more than 30 research papers in reputable journals. She has served in the University and Departmental levels as chairperson and member of different committees. She has many mentees and supervised over two hundred reseach projects (both undergraduate and postgraduate students). She won Best Graduating Student in Pure and Applied Chemistry in 1997 at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria. She won TWOWS (now OWSD) Postgraduate Fellowship in 2009 and 2012 at Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM), Fuzhou, China. Also she won OWSD Travel grant to Kuwait in 2016. She is amiable, loving and intelligent. She is happily married to the love of her life.
