Brief about me

I am a Professor of Protein Biochemistry and Enzymology. We have researched a lot on detoxifying enzymes such as Rhodanase, an enzyme that helps in the detoxification of cynanide in many plants, especially tubers in Nigeria. This enzyme is also useful in bio-remediation processes by reducing the effect of anthropogenic chemicals arising from the indiscriminate use of fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides on our farmlands by famers seeking more bountiful harvests at all cost. Other related projects are on 3- Mercaptopyruvate transferase, a sulfur transferase and its importance in sulphur transfer in cyanide detoxification processes.

Currently, I am doing research in Computation Biochemistry. These studies involve the In- Silico, Molecular Docking, In-vitro and in-vivo studies of Anti-microbial activities of some proteins in infectious diseases. Some plant extracts contain some ligands that are similar to proteins from other species and could act as inhibitors that could be used for treatment of microbial, viral and genetic related inherited disease.

Also, we assess the effects of some medicinal plants on the Mithochondrial membrane permeability transition pore, a proteinaceous, non-specific channel of the inner mitochondrial membrane whose large amplitude opening has been connected to the induction of apoptosis. Identification of phytochemicals which induce this pore’s opening is a right step in identifying likely anticancer phytochemicals, as apoptosis is one major mechanism by which cancer cells die; here we delve into simulating drug development models
