Brief about me

I have been a medical lecturer since 2003 at LAUTECH Ogbomoso, actively involved in teaching medical microbiology to undergraduate medical, nursing and medical laboratory science students, as well as in training/supervision of postgraduate students in medical microbiology at diploma, masters and fellowship (residency) program. I became a professor of medical microbiology in 2011. My areas of research interest are invitro diagnosis of microbial infections, antimicrobial resistance detection in bacterial pathogens, healthcare associated infections, infection prevention and control, and antimicrobial stewardship. I was a former head of department of medical microbiology, Dean of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, and a former member of the University Governing Council. I am also a consultant clinical microbiologist to the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, and actively involved in laboratory investigations and management of patients with infectious diseases. I was a former member of the Governing Board of the hospital and currently head the hospital clinical microbiology laboratory, infection prevention control, and antimicrobial stewardship committees. I served as an Adhoc member of the Steering Committee of the Federal Ministry of Health that developed the National Infection Prevention Control Policy and Strategy for healthcare facilities in Nigeria in 2013. I am an active member of the National Antimicrobial Stewardship Working Group (NASWOG) of the Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Society of Nigeria (CLIMIDSON), and a member of the Board of Faculty of Pathology, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN). I am currently executing a multi-center research project (as Principal Investigator) that is evaluating loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) detection of active tuberculosis disease (ATBD) and interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) screening of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) among representative Nigeria population, funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) National Research Fund (NRF) 2021 grant cycle.
