Olugbenga Edward Ayodele obtained the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.; B.S.) degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1991 and the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians in 2002 after completing his postgraduate medical training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria. He joined LAUTECH in 2003 as Lecturer I and rose to become Professor of Medicine in 2011. He received a Training Grant Award from the International Society of Nephrology, which afforded him the opportunity for additional training in Nephrology at the Division of Nephrology & Hypertension, Groote Schuur Hospital/University of Cape Town, South Africa, between March 2007 and March 2008. He completed his MPhil in Health Professions Education (HPE) at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, in March 2020.
He served as Head of the Department of Medicine, LAUTECH, between October 1, 2013, and July 31, 2014. He was elected Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences in 2014 and served for two years. He was reappointed in August 2022 as the Head of Medicine for three years. He has co-authored over 60 scholarly articles and served as a reviewer for more than 20 peer-reviewed national and international journals at various times. He serves as an Examiner at the West African Postgraduate Medical College. He is serving his second term as Head of the Nephrology subspecialty at the West African College of Physicians (2023-2024). He is a member of many professional bodies. He enjoys reading Christian and motivational books and watching football in his spare time. He hopes to complete a Ph.D. in HPE in the future. His lifetime ambition is to be an accomplished clinician, researcher, medical teacher, and a good role model for future health professionals.
